How is the land market divided in China?

Land in China is divided into three classes:

  • First class market- the State leases the "right to use the land" to state-owned companies or private organizations, including foreign investors;
  • Second class market- the party already holding the lease transfers it to another party; and,
  • Third class market- the lease for the land is passed laterally from one lessee to another.
