What is the current growth rate of power consumption in China?
Official statistics show power consumption has grown along with GDP in China averaging 7.8% annually throughout the 1990s. The Chinese government's 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) set a target of seven percent annual GDP growth. The plan also predicts that power consumption will grow by 5.5% annually for the next ten years, while peak demand is forecasted to grow at 6.5% annually over that period. Experts have questioned these official statistics, stating that the real growth rate should be somewhat lower.
