The courts in numerous jurisdictions, including the PRC, have certain powers under both common law and statute to order the transfer of a domain name if the domain name was registered in bad faith. Nevertheless, one can only marvel at the unreasonableness of the decision involving the Pfizer Corporation in December 2000, and its domain name transfer claim against a Chinese company who had registered the name "Viagra". The No. 2 Beijing Intermediate People's Court held "Viagra" not to be a famous trademark, even though it has been registered in more than 100 countries including the PRC, and refused to grant Pfizer's transfer.
