Recently, several measures have been taken in order to better protect China's IPR. In 1999, SDA launched a crackdown on counterfeit and substandard products. SDA also implemented the Regulations on the Supervision and Management of Drug Distribution and the Regulations on the Procedures of Administrative Punishment on Drug Supervision. The regulations aim to eliminate illegal drug markets and production at unauthorized firms. According to the regulations, drug makers can market only their own products and cannot sell them to unlicensed traders, clinical institutes, or other illegal markets.
