What standard is applied to determine whether United States courts have jurisdiction over a given international case or defendant?
(a): Just like domestic conflicts, international cases need to have minimum contacts with the United States under International Shoe. Mere ownership of property in the forum state is not sufficient for this purpose. Other nations have differing rules on jurisdiction that can vary widely from state-to-state; many of which allowing for jurisdiction in personam so long as the defendant owns property within the state.
