How does FDI offer more IP protection than other forms of oversea operations?
(a): FDI allows for greater control than relationships with third-parties, and so gives investing companies a better position to ensure that their trademarks and brands are presented and used in accordance with their long-term goals. FDI also allows companies to avoid licensing their patents and other technology to third-parties, which always carries some risk of piracy or security lapses. This makes FDI a particularly attractive option to companies dependent on proprietary technology.
