Edward Lehman Appears on CCTV's "Dialogue" to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence

Beijing – November 28, 2007 – Edward Lehman, managing director of Lehman, Lee & Xu participated in International Anti-Domestic Violence Day last Sunday by appearing as a guest on CCTV’s “Dialogue.” The program shed light on a widespread social issue that is traditionally considered a private affair among Chinese families.

Although observers believe that incidents of domestic violence remain stable, complaints of domestic violence have risen seventy percent, indicating an increased recognition that domestic violence is in fact a social problem.

Along with Cai Yiping, director of China Law Society’s Network and Research Center for Combating Domestic Violence, Mr. Lehman spoke on the issues confronting victims of domestic violence as well as improvements in avenues of legal recourse. They highlighted the growing availability of resources for families, including private and government shelters for battered women and children. They also probed the underlying causes of the acceptance of domestic violence in Chinese society.

Lehman, Lee & Xu is a prominent Chinese law firm with offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Macau, and Mongolia. The firm advocates the growth of the rule of law and social progress in China through its pro-bono activities. The firm is managed by Mr. Edward Lehman, a longtime China resident and leading expert on corporate law with twenty years of practice experience in Mainland China.
