China to Allow Sole Proprietorship in Law Firms
Beijing, China – June 24, 2007
As a part of the revision in the proposed amendment to the "Lawyers' Law," the Chinese government has announced that it will allow lawyers to operate and open their law firms as sole proprietorship. At the same time the law places certain restrictions on which individual lawyers can do so. A certain level of experience is required, and the attorney in question must not have had his or her license suspended.
Until now China has not allowed attorneys to set up sole proprietorship.
