Lex Smith is a foreign legal consultant with the Lehman, Lee & Xu Law Firm (LLX) in Beijing and with the Lehman Bush Company in Beijing and Mongolia. Additionally, Mr. Smith currently serves as the President and a Director of Merger Mines Corporation in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho, USA. He has served in that position for more than 12 years.
Mr. Smith traveled to China for the first time in 1994 and has returned there many times over the years. He has been a business development consultant with the Lehman, Lee and Xu Law Firm for 18 years, and a consultant for the firm’s “Mining Law Section” for over 10 years. Mr. Smith is a graduate of Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, USA.
Mr. Smith has over 30 years of legal experience working in such diverse areas of practice as toxic tort litigation, mining law, criminal law, military law, family law and international law. A military veteran, he served 3 years with the U.S. Army Security Agency and over 5 years in the Iowa Air National Guard managing the base Judge Advocate General (JAG) law office. He is an associate member of the American Bar Association (ABA) and a member of the ABA’s “International Law” section and of the Asia/Pacific committee. Additionally, Mr. Smith currently serves as the Beijing contact for the “American Citizens Abroad” organization (www.americansabroad.org) based in Geneva, Switzerland.
